NY State of Health | NYSTATEOFHEALTH.NY.GOV facts:

In New York, the ObamaCare health insurance marketplace is managed by NY State of Health. NYSOH is an on-line marketplace designed to help NY residents shop around for, and enroll in health care insurance.

NY State of Health | NYStateOfHealth gov | New York State of Health NY Health Plan Marketplace | NYSOHHealth insurance premiums obtained through the nystateofhealth gov website will vary depending on location. For example, a 40 year old with a salary of $50,000 would pay on the average about $415/month, but if you live in Ithaca – the average increases to $446.

It is the insurance companies that set the rates. And as usual, they are often driven by competition. In a big city there is a lot of insurance competition, as opposed to rural areas. You would think that the risk factors would be greater in NYC than Ithaca, but that’s the way it works.

It pays to shop around though. Getting insurance through the health insurance marketplace could save you money, but not necessarily. Check out the rates in the form on top of this page.

Health insurance coverage offered by the nystateofhealth.gov site will include a comprehensive set of benefits where financial subsidies will be available to individuals who meet the criteria.

Individuals, families and small business employees will be enabled to compare and apply for various health insurance coverage plans through this site.

Under the federal Affordable Care Act, a Health Care Insurance Marketplace will be operating in every state started in October 2013.  Each state has the option to either set up a Marketplace or to allow the federal government to set up a Marketplace in their state.  The State of New York chose to set up its own Marketplace, called NY State of Health.

A $40 million marketing campaign will be anchored by the catch phrase “NY State of Health.” Ads will appear on subways, buses, television, billboards, the radio and in ethnic newspapers. “Everything is more complicated in New York City,” said Ken Raske, president of the Greater New York Hospital Association, a trade group. “Getting the word out is really hard, and you have to do it on every imaginable level.”
