Surge in Obamacare enrollment

Enrollment under Obamacare care surged last week driven by the deadline for receiving coverage to begin Jan. 1, 2015. Unlike in 2013, the website (Healthcare.gov) is working properly.

More than one million Americans have selected plans from December 6th to December 12th, bringing the total enrollments to 2.5 million according to, Health and Human Services Department.

The Obama administration has set a goal of 9.1 million Americans enrolled by 2015. This also includes new consumers plus about 6.7 million current consumers, most who were automatically enrolled.

Obamacare law offers subsidized private insurance to Americans who do not have access to healthcare coverage through their occupations. Open enrollment will run until Feb. 15, 2014, but Dec. 15th was the deadline for consumers to switch existing plans, or to select a new plan, which kick in Jan 1, 2015.
