HEALTHCARE.GOV OFF TO A SOLID BEGINNING

More than one million Americans filled out applications for health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act during the first week of open enrollment, which begin on Nov. 15. Another 462,000 consumers selected plans with half of them applying for cover on the website before. Overall, there were 3.7 million Americans who registered in Healthcare.gov. The strong start to Healthcare.gov open enrollment is a sharp contrast to the first weeks of open enrollment in 2012, in which the launch of the website featured long wait times, no applicants, and an unstable website.

Sylvia Burwell, secretary of Human and Health Services said Americans are ready to get health care coverage and that the visitors to the website are seeing improved customer service, more competition, and affordable options. She also said that the Obama administration will be revealing weekly reports of the consumers who enroll in coverage and other metrics such as visitors to the site and the number of applications filled out.
